March 21, 2003—Knape & Vogt Manufacturing Co. has received Design Journal Magazines Award for Design Excellence (ADEX) for its Captor CPU (central processing unit) holder. KV introduced the product in September 2003 as part of the idea@WORK family of ergonomic office products.
The Captor mounts to the underside of most work surfaces to “capture” a desktop computers CPU. The Captor, which holds any size CPU, hoists the unit off the floor and frees up additional work surface space and legroom for workers.
The adjustable Captor can hold all sizes of CPUs. It can support up to 75 pounds with a positive locking ratchet system. No tools are needed to adjust height or width. The Captor swivels 360 degrees for access to plug in cable modems or a phone line. An 18-inch track provides 13 inches of in-and-out adjustment range, and an integrated side-mounted handle helps to slide and swivel the unit, so the user can reach the CPU to insert a floppy disk or CD.
