Knauf Fiber Glass insulation products first to earn GREENGUARD certification

November 15, 2002—The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) has awarded GREENGUARD Certification to Knauf Fiber Glass’s building insulation products (batts, blankets, and Summit Blowing Insulation). GREENGUARD certifies that Knauf’s products are low-emitting and have minimal impact on indoor air quality. To earn certification, Knauf underwent a series of emissions tests for levels of total particles, formaldehyde, and other Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Knauf’s insulation products will undergo quarterly monitoring tests to provide ongoing assurance of their low emitting status.

The products meet the GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality standards, which are based on requirements used by the State of Washington and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Knauf products are the first to be certified under GREENGUARD’s new Certification Program

According to GREENGUARD, many interior products and materials release odorous or potentially irritating contaminants into the indoor environment, which can have serious effects on the occupants’ health, productivity, and quality of life. Respiratory diseases such as asthma are often attributed to chemical emissions from interior products. GREENGUARD Certified Products significantly reduce indoor air pollution. The GREENGUARD Certification Program helps builders, architects, interior designers, specifying professionals, and consumers create better indoor environments, by providing a free online Product Guide to scientifically tested low-emitting products.
