July 9, 2003—The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) has awarded Indoor Air Quality Certification to Knauf Insulation’s air handling insulation products. To earn certification, the Knauf products underwent a series of rigorous emissions tests for levels of total particles, formaldehyde, and other Volatile Organic Compounds, and will continue to be monitored on a quarterly basis. Common products and materials release odorous or potentially irritating contaminants into the indoor environment, which can have serious effects on the occupants’ health, productivity, and quality of life. Respiratory diseases such as asthma are often attributed to chemical emissions from interior products. The GREENGUARD Certification Program helps builders, architects, interior designers, specifying professionals, and consumers create better indoor environments, by providing a online guide to scientifically tested low emitting products.
