June 23, 2006—KnollTextiles’ Dorothy Cosonas original designs received a Gold Award in the Textiles: Upholstery category in the Best of NeoCon’06 competition. Cosonas, who is KnollTextiles’ creative director, is influenced by the fashion world as well as the traditional craft of decorative textiles, as evidenced by the look of hand stitching and embroidery in her fabrics, notes the company.
Based on the rich, nubby texture of classic Chanel suiting is Coco, which has a soft, luxurious hand and a handcrafted quality (100% rayon). Icon, the signature pattern in the collection, is inspired by current ethnic and embroidery trends found in fashion. Composed of 54% cotton and 46% polyester, it is a geometric pattern with controlled movement.
For the three additional patterns that comprise the collection, the designer turned to men’s suiting patterns. Woven in Scotland, Cross Stitch is inspired by a men’s windowpane plaid, in 92% wool 8% nylon blend. English Accent is inspired by a classic Glen plaid, in 76% cotton, 22% wool, 2% nylon, with six colors total in an even all-over pattern. Empire Stripe, derived from men’s striped shirting, has a seven-color pattern woven as a warp stripe, and is composed of 73% cotton, 18% wool, 7% polyester, 2% nylon.
KnollTextiles also received a Gold Award in the Textiles: Panel category for Palladium and Hard Rock.
