Landscape Forms’ Arcata bench was honored with a Silver IDEA award in the 2001 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) competition sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and Business Week magazine. Encompassing 11 categories from business equipment to furniture and medical devices, the 189 winning designs were chosen from 1,260 entries in the annual competition. The June 25 issue of Business Week announces all winners.
IDEA 2001 drew a record number of entries in its 22nd year, reinforcing its reputation as the foremost recognition of excellence in industrial design. Forty-four designs received the coveted Gold Award, 63 were honored with the Silver, and 82 took Bronze. A jury of 18 non-affiliated designers selected this year’s IDEA winners during two-and-a-half days of intense evaluation and debate. Jurors scored how well each entry fulfilled five criteria of industrial design excellence: design innovation; benefit to the user; benefit to the client/business; ecological responsibility; and appropriate esthetics and appeal.
