April 18, 2005—Wireless Facilities, Inc. (WFI), and its partner, Tactical Survey Group, Inc. (TSG) have begun implementing its Tactical Survey security tool for the Los Angeles Convention Center. WFI and TSG began this project in December 2004, and it is scheduled for completion in May 2005.
The Tactical Survey system is a computer-based technology that creates a 360-degree virtual tour of a facility, providing a way for security, law enforcement, firefighting, and other first responder personnel to “see through” doors, walls and around corners, WFI says. The images displayed by Tactical Survey are embedded with related tactical information, such as the location of valve shutoffs, hazardous materials, and key personnel.
Users of Tactical Survey are able to view the physical layout and construction of the crisis location—including the related tactical information—from their briefing rooms or portable computers. Created jointly by WFI and TSG, Tactical Survey was designed to assist law enforcement and first responders in responding to or training for a security or safety incident.
