Latest edition of Introduction to Fall Protection released by ASSE

July 30, 2001—An updated edition of Nigel Ellis Introduction to Fall Protection has been released by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). The Department of Labor says falls are the second leading cause of on-the-job deaths. The third edition focuses on how to eliminate fall hazards through preplanning fall protection in the workplace, and incorporates new findings and technologies since it was last released in 1993.

Ellis explains how to identify walking and working surface hazards including slips, trips, ramps, stairways, roofs, scaffolds, and ladders. The book covers various topics of fall protection such as fall protection training, equipment selection, inspection and maintenance, fall hazard analysis, fall protection codes, work positioning, and passive fall protection systems. It also includes expanded sections on sample fall protection programs, engineering lifeline systems, and how to audit and evaluate a protection program. For more information or to order a copy of the book, call 847/699-2929 or visit ASSE.
