LEED-accredited professionals top 23,000

March 24, 2006—A landmark 23,100 building industry professionals have earned accreditation under the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED Professional Accreditation program, says the organization.

LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED AP’s) are experienced building practitioners who have demonstrated their knowledge of the green building and the LEED Green Building Rating System by passing a comprehensive exam. LEED AP’s are recognized experts in green building.

The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nation’s only consensus-based and committee-driven green building rating system. LEED has a proven track record of creating high performance green buildings, and today over half a billion square feet of building space is being built to the LEED standard.

In addition to facilitating the LEED certification process, LEED AP’s often serve as local champions for sustainable development, forging a better understanding of the principles and benefits of LEED and integrated design, notes the USGBC.
