Lees Carpets featured in three winning projects in DuPont Antron Asia Pacific Design Awards

May 9, 2003—Lees Carpets was recently recognized with distinction from the 2002 DuPont Antron Asia Pacific Design Awards. Two of Lees’ modular products and one broadloom product were showcased in three winning projects in the competition, which is segmented into regions of Japan/Korea, Greater China, Southeast Asia, Australia/ NZ and an Overall Winner for Asia Pacific, in categories of Corporate, Hospitality and Retail.

Grand Prize Winner & Corporate/Office Category Winner

For its new offices in Shanghai, BP China required that particular emphasis be placed on utilizing the “living brand logo” known as the Helios. Design firm I ACTION spent a significant amount of time with the client to discuss how the ‘living brand’ could be best communicated in the new design. Carpet played a significant role in the communication of the ‘Helios’ and helped to bring the brand to life through texture and color. Lees’ Kinsale Carpet tile was specified in the project.

South East Asia Region: Hospitality Category Winner

Singapore Airlines needed floorcovering that would aptly serve the dual purpose of being durable for high traffic and aesthetically pleasing to complement the elegant interior of its Priority Passenger Service Club. The goal of the design team, TID Associates Pte Ltd., was to create a warm, calming and inviting space to encourage customers to spend time there. A unique and creative design choice was the installation of an aquarium in the outer wall of the reception area, helping to create a soothing, peaceful atmosphere. Senior Designer Suwatchai Tungtangkid said, “It was a priority for us to ensure that the carpet would maintain its appearance over a long period of time.” Lees’ Boxweave broadloom carpeting was chosen to complete the project.

Greater China Region: Public Space/Retail Category Winner

Design firm Woods Bagot of Hong Kong created a new interior for the Chinese Arts & Crafts Centre in Wanchai, Hong Kong, that is contemporary and bold yet also uses traditional elements such as screens and lanterns to reinforce the Chinese culture and heritage. The result is a bright, energetic space that provides customers with beautifully presented display areas that combine both traditional and modern elements of Chinese culture successfully. Lees’ Ramio modular tile was selected to tie the space together.
