Legislation would keep Internet tax-free

Senators George Allen, Conrad Burns, and John Warner have introduced a new bill that would permanently prohibit Internet access taxes as well as multiple and discriminatory Internet sales taxes. S. 777, The Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act, would make permanent the current moratorium, created under the Internet Tax Freedom Act, which is scheduled to expire in October 2001. “A bill that will permanently ban discriminatory taxes that favor brick over click is a boon for the IT industry, especially for the emerging companies,” said Jonathan Zuck, president of the Association for Competitive Technology (ACT), which has pledged its support to the new bill.
