The latest report outlines progress made in the 12 months to March 2026 across six focus countries: Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Tanzania, and achieved the following results:

  • Direct Sanitation Access: 1.3 million people gained new direct access to at least basic sanitation.
  • Indirect Systems Reach: 1.8 million people benefited indirectly through systems-strengthening activities.
  • Basic Handwashing Access: 625,000 people gained access to basic handwashing services.

As a key highlight of this year’s progress, direct access to basic sanitation rose to 1.3 million people from 727,000 the previous year. The increase was driven by a market-based approach through the “five dimensions of market strengthening,” including building supply chains and creating demands.
