October 10, 2001—Logitech Inc. recently announced the findings of a national survey underscoring the growing importance of the offices that people use in their houses and apartments.
Greenfield Online research released today, commissioned by Logitech, found that nearly 80% of all respondents now consider a home office to be important. A full 35% have a separate room for this purpose, and 47% have assigned a dedicated space for a home office within their house. Today’s home offices are put to serious use, with nearly 20% of respondents using them to run their own home-based business. Nineteen percent said they use their home office for telecommuting, and another 28% use it when bringing work home from their place of employment.
Logitech has joined with the American Association of Home-Based Businesses (AAHBB) to identify and support the technology needs of the growing number of people who work at home.
The Greenfield study indicates that “more room for storage” cited by 55% of respondents, is the biggest improvement people seek for their workspace. This was followed closely by getting rid of excess cords and clutter and improving organization, cited by 49% of respondents. New cordless products especially appeal to home workers as a way to reduce clutter and take advantage of cramped quarters. Nearly half (46%) said they believed a cordless mouse would be an improvement to their home office workspace, 38% said a cordless keyboard would be helpful and 25% would like a cordless telephone headset.
Aware of the growing need for home office improvement and advice, Logitech is also partnering with Terri Lonier, founder and president of Working Solo, Inc., an organization that supports home workers, to show people how they can conduct their own home-office improvements.
