MACTEC launches new version of document archive and retrieval technology

March 21, 2008—MACTEC Engineering & Consulting (MACTEC E&C) has introduced Version 5.0 of DART (Document Archive and Retrieval Technology).

DART allows organizations to easily convert large amounts of paper documents into an organized electronic filing cabinet, says the company. The latest version includes the ability to insert Bates stamped (an organizational method to label and identify legal documents) numbers on a series of PDF files. This allows the documents to be used in litigation procedures. Another new feature is the ability to batch-print PDF files.

DART is an open architecture system that uses non-proprietary standard software and file formats such as Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Existing electronic files like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be included with or without conversion to PDF files. MACTEC scans and processes the documents and customizes DART to meet the client’s specific search requirements; the client is then given a software license. There are also annual maintenance contracts available.

Clients utilizing DART have included: Army Medical Command, Army Materiel Command, Army Forces Command, Air Force Materiel Command, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, City of Philadelphia, and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

MACTEC, based in Alpharetta, GA, is an environmental, engineering, construction management, and infrastructure services firm with more than $450 million in annual revenue and 3,000 employees in over 80 offices nationwide. For more on the company, see its Web site.
