MACTEC unveils Confined Space Management System software

June 2, 2008—MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., has introduced Confined Space Management System (CSMS), a Web-based application that allows shop supervisors, safety, fire department and bioenvironmental personnel to track activities and people within confined spaces.

CSMS is an effective tool for managing confined space entry by ensuring that only qualified personnel following appropriate safety measures are allowed to enter confined spaces, according to MACTEC.

CSMS is an ASP.NET application that works within .NET Framework 2.0 and an Oracle backend database (which can be changed to an SQL server backend if needed). The Wing Safety Office at Robins Air Force Base in Atlanta, for instance, uses CSMS to capture information pertaining to confined space assessments.

Key system tasks include georeferences and also defines a specific confined space, the type and hazards associated with it. It also tracks type of permits required to enter a confined space and tracks types of PPE Personal protective equipment required. CSMS also tracks personnel training records and creates/tracks required permits.
