Maine DOE adopts VFA’s facilities capital planning solution to revitalize schools

June 7, 2002—VFA, a provider of Web-architected facilities asset planning and management solutions, has implemented its Facility/Infrastructure Certification Program (F/ICP) at the Maine Department of Education (DOE). The F/ICP, which trains participants on VFA’s Capital Planning and Management Solutions (CPMS) approach, allows the Maine DOE to gain a centralized decision support capability that assists with asset management, as well as equitable and rational facilities funding across the department’s 725 schools, consisting of approximately 1,000 buildings.

VFA’s CPMS practices, which include VFA facilities software, deliver a scalable, centralized repository of facilities condition data to the Maine DOE, enabling significant enhancements in school facilities management practices throughout the state. To ensure that a consistent means of gathering accurate facilities assessment data is used, all of Maine’s Local Educational Authorities, as well as any involved third-party firms, are trained on the VFA-hosted technology solution. As a result, the DOE will be able to make funding decisions and prioritize deferred maintenance projects based on a rational and consistent capital planning process.
