October 31, 2003—Mannington Commercial announces that packaging on all carpet tile shipments has been converted from cardboard boxes to shrink bundling. This method of packaging, utilizing 100% recyclable polyethylene film, has been extensively tested by shipping shrink bundled pallets of carpet tile all over the country and having them returned to the Calhoun, GA manufacturing facility for in-depth analysis.
These tests prove conclusively that there was no noticeable damage to the carpet tiles, and based on reports submitted by ISTA (International Safe Transit Association), the shrink bundled packaging of carpet tile pallets has been certified by the ISTA Laboratory. Mannington will use the ISTA Transit Tested Certification Mark plus its exclusive Manufacturers License Number on these packaged-products.
Manningtons process uses two grades of polyethylene film to protect the carpet tiles and to stabilize the bundles. Specially made heavy cardboard corners of 100% recycled content are included to protect the corners of the tile. This packaging change offers many advantages to Mannington customers:

- Pallets and bundles are easily opened with any sharp-edged cutting tool
- Less waste—as much as 90% less weight in packaging material

Few commercial carpet tile manufacturers use any form of shrink bundled packaging and then, only on request and subject to other restrictions.
