Mary Kay Inc. gets another OSHA “Star” for safety

January 19, 2004—The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will recognize Mary Kay Inc., headquartered in Dallas, for achieving eight years of excellence in worker health and safety. The national cosmetics manufacturer employs about 3,600 workers worldwide. In addition to an exemplary safety and health program, OSHA’s review team found that Mary Kay Inc. had a lost workday injury and illness rate of 58% below the industry national average. OSHA commended Mary Kay Inc.’s employees and managers for demonstrating their commitment to workplace safety and health.

OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program recognizes and promotes effective safety and health management. Participants are a select group of facilities that have designed and put into practice outstanding safety and health programs in which management, labor, and OSHA establish a cooperative relationship. “Star” participants meet all VPP requirements. From coast to coast, there are approximately 1,000 worksites participating in VPP.
