Maryland company receives patent for enhanced indoor air filter to sterilize microbial bacteria

November 16, 2001—Environmental Elements Corp., a provider of air pollution control services, technology, and equipment in North America, recently received a patent on its electrostatically enhanced indoor air filter—a new technology the company developed to capture and destroy particulate and microorganisms more effectively than existing high efficiency filters. The new air filter is designed to collect as much as 99.99 percent of microorganisms including legionella, tuberculosis, and other bacteria and viruses that might be found in the ventilation ductwork of office buildings, hospitals, subways, and other public locations. It then generates a high intensity electrical charge to destroy the microorganisms before they can multiply and recirculate through the air.

Further testing is planned to demonstrate the filter’s effectiveness on a full range of biological and chemical agents, including anthrax.
