March 26, 2007—Mattel, reportedly the world’s largest toymaker, recently announced that it has joined the World Environment Center (WEC), a global nonprofit, non-advocacy organization that advances corporate sustainability business practices.
Mattel reportedly implements ongoing initiatives to ensure that its products are manufactured under safe, fair, and environmentally responsible conditions. Its participation in the WEC will address such issues as implementing sustainability practices throughout the company’s global supply chain.
According to WEC, Mattel is the first company in the toy industry to issue a global citizenship report and the first toy company to join WEC. Mattel is also ranked among the 100 Best Corporate Citizens and marks a 10-year milestone in 2007 for its Global Manufacturing Principles. Mattel employs more than 30,000 people in 43 countries and territories, and sells products in more than 150 nations throughout the world.
