May 13, 2005—A recent analysis by the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) found that 40.7 percent of low-rise commercial, manufacturing, community, and ancillary buildings were constructed of metal building systems, a 2.7 percent increase over 2003.
The 2004 statistics found a significant increase over the last three years, when market conditions were profoundly impacted by the downturn in the economy and the economic aftershocks created by the terrorist attacks on our nation, the study says.
Metal building systems have often been chosen over traditional building systems for their durable, economic construction and fast-track delivery. But the systems manufacturers had to overcome the impression that they only offered grey boxy warehouses.
Today’s metal building systems incorporate glass, stone, brick, metal, concrete and wood, says the association.
Organized in 1956, MBMA serves the metal building systems manufacturers and associate member suppliers. For more information, visit its Web site.
