February 18, 2004—Satellite Security Systems (S3), a global provider of asset security and logistics control, announced today that Metro Fuel Oil Corporation of New York is using its FleetGuard application company-wide to secure and monitor 16 service vehicles and 40 fuel and oil tankers.
FleetGuard, a desktop application, works with S3’s GlobalGuard to view, command, and control each vehicle in an entire fleet at once. GlobalGuard is a security communications system, based on ReFLEX technology and Global Positioning System (GPS), providing up-to-the-minute vehicle location and control of fixed and mobile assets. The S3 solution continuously provides security analysis for possible Homeland Security concerns where a fully loaded tanker truck could be used as a terrorist weapon.
Metro Fuel Oil Corporation has been at the forefront of security awareness, having installed GPS prior to 9-11 and supplied emergency services immediately after the attacks. Metro recently upgraded from an old GPS system to FleetGuard for its superior features and the remote engine shutdown capability. Its entire fleet of 40 tanker trucks will be outfitted with GlobalGuard so that in the event of a hijacking or other security breach, the truck can be stopped and controlled. Also, Metro’s service vehicles will have up-to-the-second tracking capabilities in order to increase business efficiency and route planning.
Metro Fuel Oil Corporation operates in the New York City Metro area and serves thousands of commercial, industrial, and residential accounts along with numerous New York State Government agencies and the Federal Government, including the Department of Defense. They also serve many bus companies, fleets and local school districts.
