MGE UPS and Opdex join to allow users to control up to 200 different UPS parameters

November 26, 2003—MGE UPS Systems and Opdex have joined forces to offer Opdex Powersafe, an enterprise-class power management solution. Powersafe enables users to increase the availability and uptime of mission-critical systems by providing pro-active management capabilities for all uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) throughout the enterprise directly from their existing CA Unicenter or HP OpenView consoles or in stand-alone mode.

MGE UPS is a provider of power protection solutions to computer data centers, telecom and industrial operations. Opdex is a global software company to help corporations optimize existing technology investments.

With secure local and remote access, Powersafe software allows users to monitor and control up to 200 different UPS parameters in real-time using Web, PDA, or mobile interfaces in addition to their existing enterprise management systems. The software can monitor an unlimited number of SNMP and serial UPSs across the enterprise. While it includes drivers for all major UPS brands, Powersafe is optimized for operation with MGE single and three-phase UPS products.

The cooperative effort avoids problems arising when IT managers have had to cobble together third party, non-integrated software to manage and control their complete UPS and power infrastructure, according to MGE UPS. Now, through the MGE-OPDES relationship, users are offered a software solution that fully integrates with the enterprise system. By incorporating seamless integration along with unique features such as automated testing and customized actions within the enterprise management framework, this level of pro-active UPS management secures and protects corporate data assets throughout even the most extensive local or wide-area network.

Tight integration with the system console makes power management a transparent component of the overall enterprise management system, according to Opdex. The global firm adds that administrators don’t need to learn any new routines to manage the power infrastructure of their network. Power equipment can now be managed just like servers.
