October 24, 2004—Miami University has selected Constructware as the software they will use to manage a major facilities expansion program over the next several years. The University has more than $750 million in projects identified in its master plan and currently has $200 million in projects in planning, design, or construction.
Constructware provides project management and collaboration solutions that enable companies in the construction industry to improve performance and minimize risk. Constructware’s core solution is a hosted, Internet-based application that provides building professionals with enterprise-wide collaboration from design through project closeout. Three key factors cited by Miami University that led them to choose Constructware are:
- solid functionality across the design and construction lifecycle;
- lower costs with the “hosted” Application Service Provider (ASP) model, avoiding the need to add IT support staff and additional hardware (servers and backup capability); and
- managing more work with fewer resources; Miami wanted to manage projects more efficiently to avoid the necessity of adding more staff to support the increased workload over the next eight to ten years.
Miami University will begin implementing Constructware on selected projects over the next several months, noting that implementation of Constructware requires a high level of organizational commitment. As part of that commitment, the University will gradually mandate use of Constructware in most of its contracts with designers, contractors, and other service providers.
