June 30, 2004—MicroMain Corporation, a provider of asset and facility management software and services, has announced general availability of xmMOBILE 6.1 for Palm OS devices. Used with MicroMain XMMicroMains flagship computerized maintenance management (CMMS)/enterprise asset management (EAM) systemthe xmMOBILE module enables work orders to be transmitted electronically to handhelds used by maintenance technicians.
With xmMOBILE, work orders and inspections can be downloaded to Palm devices including PDAs and bar code scanners.
In the course of a typical day using xmMOBILE, maintenance technicians pick up their Palm device, access work orders, complete tasks, and update the work orders right at the point of work performance. Labor in/out time is also automatically calculated with xmMOBILE. At the end of their work shift, technicians upload the data back into the main database. This increases accuracy and saves time and labor costs since information does not need to be rekeyed manually.
xmMOBILE 6.1 for Palm includes additional functionality for inspections, which are used by organizations to meet industry regulations, reduce equipment downtime, and ensure asset integrity. Using drop-down inspection points, pre-determined by each customer, maintenance technicians can use checkboxes and comment fields on their Palm device to indicate “passed” or “failed” status, action taken, rating and measurements.
With this module, existing work orders can be downloaded to PDAs and new work orders can be created in the field. Now users have more options for updating labor, assigning accounts, and setting work order status. New advanced filtering also allows users to limit the amount of data downloaded, which makes it easier for technicians to scroll through pick lists.
Users can also save time with bar code scanning using xmMOBILE. When a technician scans a bar code on an asset, such as an air conditioner or drill press, the handheld will display all work orders for that equipment. If no work orders exist, the technician can create a new one on the spot.
