May 4, 2005—Milestone XProtect IP video surveillance software is providing a secure environment for the high-volume movement of goods through the huge distribution center of a busy global logistics company, says the company.
The Mallory Alexander Distribution Center covers 400,000 square feet, and contains a restricted 40 x 30-foot Container Freight Station to handle foreign imports and exports.
With the networked IP surveillance solution, Mallory managers can monitor the center day and night, including by remote access from anywhere via a built-in Web interface and a secure logon. The company says that theft and pilferage are controlled while shipping and receiving issues at 62 docks can also be resolved, including high security standards demanded by customs officials.
The surveillance also works as a management tool to settle incidents such as railroad claims that the center was not ready for deliveries, which would carry a charge of $175 per car if the company were unable to prove otherwise.
An infrared detector mounted at the gate triggers cameras to start recording when someone drives up at night. PTZ cameras are monitoring the parking lot, the receiving and shipping bays, the trash disposal area, and the railroad container bays running along the back of the building.
