Milliken Carpet launches new line of classically patterned carpet

October 17, 2003—Milliken Carpet has launched its “Simply” collection of 36-inch loop-pile modular carpets at NeoCon 2003. The 18 designs in six design families respond to designers requests for “back-to-basics” carpets that reflect present fashion trends, but have the feeling of longevity.

Over the last year, Milliken conducted field interviews with major A&D firms in New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Dallas, said Alison Kitchingman, Milliken marketing director. “The majority of designers interviewed asked for carpets that were classic in nature. They pointed out a crucial need in the market for simple, yet sophisticated carpets that would fit the universe of office applications and not become dated.”

Simply designs include striations, window pane grids, checkerboards and basketweaves of different scales, chalk lines, faux crinkled and sisal textures, random rings incorporating counterchange, and positive/negative effects. Six design families help designers coordinate or mix and match patterns, scales and colors in interactive interior schemes. One design can be used for monolithic expressions or several specified for floor mosaics. Spaces can be delineated with coordinating patterns or area rug effects.

Color selections include time-honored and new neutrals, as well as emerging brown wood-tones, sun-kissed yellows, tropical and grassroots greens, alpine and nighttime blues, and sassy mixes of magenta and berry. Colors suggest different responses to ambient light and shade and are in keeping with the International Colour Authoritys trend projections, according to Stoyles, who serves as vice president of the renowned color forecasting group.

Patterns within the six families are closely related for quick coordination, and themes and styles are correlated throughout the entire collection for ease of use. The tufted, textured loop pile collection is made of Milliken certified WearOn nylon. Comfort Plus cushion backing is standard and improves long-term performance and ergonomics. MilliGuardreduces staining and soiling, while AlphaSan provides built-in protection to mold and mildew.
