Milliken renews old modular carpet and avoids clogging landfills

Milliken & Company’s Earth Square program actually renews and reuses old carpet rather than disposing it to landfills. In 1999, 43 of the Milliken & Company’s 55 domestic locations achieved zero waste to landfills. Used carpet in the unique proprietary program undergoes three steps: 1) super-cleaning using natural methods; 2) re-texturing to rejuvenate the pile height, and 3) dyeing with updated carpet designs using Milliken’s patented Millitron imaging.

This entire closed-loop recovery process, which encourages companies to take old carpet right off the floor for renewal, is environmentally sound. Earth Square’s certified installers use a water-based adhesive, containing no solvents. The Earth Square renewal process, says Milliken, saves approximately 50 percent compared to the cost of new modular carpet. Further information from www.milliken.com.
