October 20, 2003—Johnson Controls has been awarded a contract to provide integrated security system upgrades at Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The $1.2 million contract includes installation of a non-passenger card access control system with card readers and an advanced closed circuit television (CCTV) with cameras throughout the airport. The systems will be integrated through the company’s Cardkey P2000 security management. The contract also includes one year of service. Up to four years of extended service to the airport’s updated security systems is provided by a separate contract.
The airport decided to upgrade because its existing 10-year-old security system was becoming too expensive to maintain. The new, integrated system will help protect air travelers, employees, and visitors more efficiently and, moreover, will have the capability to be integrated with the airport’s building automation system. The new access control system for airport employees features smart card technology. However, the system can be configured as needed to accommodate biometrics technology. Installation is expected to be completed early in 2004.
