May 20. 2005—Americans throw away enough office paper each year to build a 12-foot high wall stretching from New York to San Francisco—that’s 10,000 or so sheets per person. The Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance (OEA) launched its statewide office paper reduction campaign earlier this spring. Now, the OEA is asking companies around the state to take the office paper reduction challenge.
To jump start office paper reduction efforts among companies statewide, the OEA created a new set of educational tools designed with businesses in mind. The tools include an innovative e-mail communications program to provide workers with paper reduction tips, as well as a short video and posters that reinforce the message of printing responsibly. The OEA also offers companies practical ideas for breaking down the paper wall—for example, offices could choose to duplex (print on both sides of a sheet) and save documents electronically versus printing them out.
