February 15, 2006—Montel recognizes that a LEED-certified products category does not exist in the US Green Building Council’s LEED program, but, explains the manufacturer of high-density mobile storage systems, it is working to support “green building” standards.
A pioneer of high-density mobile storage systems in North America, Montel says the built environment has a direct impact on the natural environment. It outlines the following benefits that occur with high-density mobile storage systems:
- Space conservation: Use of high-density mobile storage “may offer the opportunity to minify building sizes,” thus preserving open space and negating the use of off-site storage.
- Energy and atmosphere: Buildings that use high-density mobile storage systems may not only save on storage space capacity but also save on energy consumption for workspace environments since smaller buildings tend to consume less energy. Also, Montel’s systems can be equipped with automatic overhead aisle lighting for energy savings.
- Materials and resources: For a project seeking LEED certification, recycled content incorporated in Montel’s systems may lead toward a project earning points. Montel uses chemicals and raw materials that can be recycled in all manufacturing processes. LEED allows a company to assume 25% of the steel content is post-consumer material. Montel’s steel suppliers use from 57% to 86% of recyclable steel content.
- Indoor environmental quality: To reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, potentially irritating and/or harmful to the comfort and well-being of installers and users, Montel uses low-emitting materials for its products. Montel applies powder-coat paint that is durable and non-off-gassing, thus emitting no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may contribute towards credits for low-emitting materials.
