Montel’s SmartTrack shelving system accepted by US Patent and Trademark Office

November 15, 2004—The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has accepted the patent application for SmartTrack by Montel Inc. Granted for a term of 20 years, the patent was approved under the description “Ground embedded wire tracks for a shelving system having mobile shelf units.”

Released as a prototype during the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair in June 2003, the SmartTrack operates with Montel’s high-density electrical mobile systems. Concealing the power wiring in the floor track, the SmartTrack eliminates dangling scissor-arms or pantographs between mobile units. As a result, Montel says a 16.6% space capacity is created with the addition of a seventh shelf on the SmartShelf 4-Post hybrid shelving system. Compared to the scissor arms or pantographs conventional electrical systems, Montel’s users have the freedom to create aisles of various widths.
