December 3, 2007—Montel was honored with this year’s Premier’s Award of Excellence by winning a Bronze Award for supplying and installing compact mobile shelving systems, cabinets, and art racks for the new facility for the Provincial Archives of Alberta, Canada.
The Alberta Public Service is recognized as one of the most dynamic and innovative public sector organizations in North America. The Premier’s Award of Excellence is a symbol of that recognition. The award is also a symbol of the government’s commitment to continuous improvement in serving its clients—the people of Alberta.
When the Provincial Archives of Alberta outgrew its space and began to warehouse collections, the need for a new building became apparent. For a custom-design archival storage solution, the Provincial Archives of Alberta selected Montel as its storage system supplier.
According to Montel, the project, completed in 14 weeks, involved installing a QuadraVista type multi- purpose storage system, mounted on a mechanical, movable carriage. The installation involves high-density 4 -post shelves that are easy to assemble. The system is expandable according to storage needs.
For the project, Montel created a new type of post that could accommodate shelves at 29mm center-to- center increments, offering maximum flexibility for the storage of boxes, artifacts, manuscripts, and the like, within the same system. A team of 20 experienced installers assembled the contents of 70 trailers in a record 14 weeks.
