May 17, 2004—Fingerprint identification using Motorola’s Omnitrak system is now faster and more accurate thanks to two new technologies. The high-speed matcher makes Omnitrak up to 15 times faster, while the gray scale matcher improves accuracy significantly.

The Omnitrak high-speed matcher (HSM) has been enhanced to achieve 25,000 matches per second. The Omnitrak Matching system can be configured to deliver over five million matches per second in an industry-standard rack mount cabinet. Omnitrak’s gray scale matcher (GSM) boosts the accuracy of latent and ten-print fingerprint matching by up to 15 percent, which will help keep communities around the world safer by increasing the chances of identifying criminals and by preventing criminals from entering the country.

Omnitrak, Motorola’s comprehensive digital fingerprint, palmprint and facial image identification system, features continuous automated operation. The integrated biometrics system stores a variety of different images, from fingerprints, palmprints and facial images to signatures, descriptive information of the person fingerprinted and documents such as job applications, passport information and criminal investigation reports. The system can be automated to process information with no manual intervention, which helps lowers operating costs and reduce the amount of taxpayer dollars required for operation.

Motorola has implemented its Omnitrak identification system, which incorporates the high-speed matcher, for the Republic of Serbia’s new nationwide integrated identification project. The Republic of Serbia is using the Omnitrak system for both criminal and civil identification purposes.
