National Electrical Contractors Association gives thumbs up to stimulus package

February 25, 2009—The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) announced welcomes the passage and signing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) by Congress and President Obama, saying the legislation includes appropriations and tax provisions that will help bolster the electrical construction industry.

“While it’s far from perfect, this legislation will aid in the recovery of our industry,” said NECA CEO John M. Grau. “The construction industry has been hit hard by the economic downturn, with job losses approaching one million workers. This legislation will help put people back to work.”

The legislation includes nearly $150 billion in infrastructure spending and energy projects.

“This is an opportunity to invest in the electrical systems we rely on and make smarter choices about how we power those vital systems,” Grau said. “NECA electrical contractors have been at the forefront of electrical grid improvements, smart meters, broadband technology, and renewable energy technologies all items included in the stimulus. We look forward to working with federal agencies like the Department of Energy, and state and local agencies, to provide the voice of experience and help strengthen America.”
