July 4, 2003—Dauphin North America enters the US soft seating arena with Carat, a comprehensive sofa family that brings Dauphin’s quality and distinctive Bauhaus style to lobbies, reception areas, and meeting rooms. The generously scaled Carat group consists of one-, two-, and three-seat models, with companion tables cleanly styled in tubular polished chrome and glass. For added comfort, Swiss designer Roland Zund has endowed Carat with an armrest that extends beyond the classic Le Corbusier-inspired accent band, so that there is no arm contact with the cold metal. Carat can be upholstered in any fabric, leather, or COM.
Dauphin explains that it respects the environment since its upholstery techniques do not require glues that might harm the ecosystem. (This also allows for easy, on-the-spot steam cleaning.) In addition, Dauphin’s new manufacturing facility produces three times more seating with half the disposal costs; scraps are reused or disposed of sensitively.
Dauphin North America is the US subsidiary of the German seating company, F.W. Dauphin GMbH, a pioneer in ergonomic research and development.
Carat was introduced at the Dauphin showroom during June at NeoCon, held at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago.
