June 30, 2003—KnollTextiles introduces its next generation of translucent hard surface materials called ImagoPrints. Ikat Blocks, the collection’s largest scale pattern distinguished by a wide vertical stripes of softly gradated color, received a Gold award in the Surfacing Materials and Laminates category.
All ImagoPrints patterns are created by the careful registration and printing of two customer-selected layer colors. As the two layers align, they create larger scale moirs involving stripes and grids. Slightly separated from each other, the layers give the patterns a greater sense of depth and dimension.
For sampling purposes, planners will receive a kit with the eight standard colors for each pattern printed on a clear vellum material. They can combine any two vellum color selections to achieve the desired effect. Registration of the pattern will be sampled in a 6 in. by 8 in. piece of 1/8-in. thick ImagoPrints in each pattern. In addition to Ikat, ImagoPrints offers Pixilated, composed of a small-scale diamond pixel grid which, when placed over itself and slightly off center, creates an overall mid-scale kaleidoscope; Altered Lines is composed of two layers of vertical lines, slightly angled to intersect approximately every 18 inches, producing a subtle undulating effect.
ImagoPrints, made of GE’s Lexa polycarbonate, a high performance resin, is easy to fabricate, extremely impact resistant, half the weight of glass, with a special scratch resistant coating and easily cleaned with many cleaning agents. Offered in standard sizes of 4 by 8 feet, or custom at 4 by 10 feet, and in several thicknesses, ImagoPrints can be used for screens, lighting, cabinet faces, shelving, workstation windows, tabletops, and numerous other applications.
