June 18, 2004—During NeoCon 2004, Armstrong Ceiling Systems’ Merchandise Mart showroom featured new design options, including the first custom wood ceilings that allow access to the plenum. Also on display were new radial ceilings in choice of wood, metal, or fiberglass, plus a metal ceiling that provides a smooth, clean visual but with high acoustical performance.
Offered in Armstrong MetalWorks, WoodWorks, and Optima product lines, the factory-engineered ceilings are created to meet radial design specifications that offer a design enhancement for layouts that call for something other than square or rectangular ceiling panels.
Another featured product, the new Extra Microperforated MetalWorks ceiling panels combine the clean, upscale visual of smooth metal ceiling with the benefits of high acoustical performance properties. The unique microperforations in the metal panels measure only seven-tenths of a millimeter in diameter, which makes them practically invisible. Yet they allow the panels to achieve a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.65, meaning the panels absorb 65% of the sound that strikes them. Unperforated panels have an NRC of 0.10.
Access is a new installation system that can obtain the rich, warm look of a custom wood ceiling while maintaining access to the plenum. The installation system hides the suspension system and produces a modest reveal between panels for a custom installation without sacrificing plenum access.
