NeoCon’04: Halcon’s Stria casegood collection wins a Silver award in Desks category

June 25, 2004—”Layered planes” was the inspiration for the Stria casegoods collection designed by Barbara Zieve for Halcon and which captured a Silver Award in The Best of NeoCon 2004. The upper work surface, for example, overlaps the lower, creating a zone for storage between the two. The desk’s overhead cabinets are embedded in the cabinet wall, so that they project out from the face of the cabinet. Below the overhead cabinets are active reveal trays for storage; these pull down and snap back up in place.

Among other “defining zones” are extended surfaces at the guest’s side of the desk providing visitors with a PDA shelf for a Palm Pilot, for example, or a purse. Another essential zone is a Cad Disc storage cabinet.

Depending on the selection of components Stria can be either a fashion-forward or a more conservative one. A range of materials is available: all veneer or a mixture of veneer and painted millwork.
