NeoCon’05: Armstrong’s SoundScapes canopies offer spot acoustics over workstations

June 20, 2005—Armstrong Ceilings has introduced SoundScapes acoustical canopies, new accent canopies that combine the ability to provide spot acoustics in open spaces with a pleasing visual. The sound-absorbing properties of the canopies help reduce reverberation time in the space below them. As a result, explains Armstrong, they are ideal for use in open plenum areas as well as over workstations and reception desks. Use of multiple canopies improves acoustics even more. They can be installed as hills or valleys without special tools.

Displayed in the Armstrong showroom at The Merchandise Mart during NeoCon, SoundsScapes acoustical canopies feature the Ultima DuraBrite membrane or scrim. The scrim provides a very high Light Reflectance value of 0.90, meaning it reflects 90% of the light that strikes it. The new canopies, measuring 47×76-in., are seismically approved, have a ClassA Fire Rating, and a high recycled content.
