June 20, 2005—Radius, a modular seating system displayed at NeoCon in Davis Furniture’s new showroom in The Merchandise Mart, is based on a simple clean statement of contoured radius backs and seats that are separately attached to rectangular tubular legs, says the company.
The separate attachment of the seat and back offers a sweep-through that is standard and is also used as an area to connect arms and tables.
One, two, and three seat units define the straight story with an almost seamless look in the two and three seat units, explains the company. Add arms, arms with rotating tablets, single tablets, tablets with rotating tablets, and tandem tablets on the end of units or in between locations by seat designations.
Tables in many sizes can be attached on the ends, making a corner turn, or placed in between seating units adding functional partitions.
Frames are covered with multiple densities of foam for comfort and to maintain the shapely contours of the cushions. Tailoring details on all covers are designed to show minimal seams. Back seams are hidden in the sweep-through area and the front seam is hidden below the front seat edge. For best tailoring, Davis suggests solid textiles; patterned fabrics on one-seat units only.
Acrylite, unusual in furniture components, is used for tablets and tables in a semi-opaque white version. Tablets and tables are also offered in beech, cherry, maple, and oak veneers in Davis’ Standard Finishes. Specifying is easy, explains Davis: Select an end leg, then a seat, and then a ganging leg continuing until desired configuration is achieved.
