June 22, 2005—The American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers was recently formed to recognize healthcare interior designers through education, training, experience, and examinations for advanced certification. At NeoCon, AAHID undertook its first design project. The display, Standards of Excellence in Patient Room Design, was developed in conjunction with KI, a healthcare furniture manufacturer and an AAHID industry partner.
At the KI showroom, the model patient room display reflected both the human and technical aspects of patient room interior environments and illustrated the three zones typical of healthcare patient room interiors—patient, nursing, and family—in one room that made use of modular components.
The model patient room took advantage of KI’s “Market of One” design and manufacturing approach to enable designers to efficiently customize furnishings and finishes to the unique needs of each client and setting, noted KI.
