June 12, 2006—Haworth’s NeoCon entry, Patterns, is composed of elements that create workstations and modular interior architecture, as well as enhancing private offices. The collection also includes studio tables, benches, and file wrappers.
Designed by Studio & Partners (Milan) and Haworth’s Design Studio, Patterns allows spaces to be punctuated and energized with a new design vocabulary—one that introduces scale, mass, and volume to the typical systems environment. In addition, the variety of heights offered can be used to create greater topographical interest and improve wayfinding in expansive environments.
In response to comments by its customers, Haworth realized that “interiors are often designed to extremes: the efficient, traditional panel system landscape or a highly custom, less flexible, non-sustainable millwork application,” says Franco Bianchi, President and CEO of Haworth. “Patterns offers the quality of sophisticated residential furniture to create an innovative office landscape—from workstations to private offices to interior architecture.”
Patterns products were conceived to fit into a wide range of office and building types and to help bridge the functional and visual gap between interior architecture and furniture. The product further allows tailoring of office interiors through a unique and friendly specification process that offers “by-the-inch” dimensioning on all Patterns products.
Patterns makes it easier to create higher performing spaces by:
- Providing a visual framework that brings order, rhythm, and clarity to a space, allowing expression of different cultures and groups within an organization.
- Offering daylight and views to improve human performance.
- Providing a sense of place and personal space in an open plan environment through overall mass and enclosure.
- Bringing the spatial quality and expectations of a private office to the open plan.
- Providing a sense of permanence similar to that of millwork, with improved air quality and scheduling capabilities.
- Providing products conceived and designed to work great alone but even better together.
Patterns, a sustainable design that is adaptable and easily reconfigured, is the third wave of the new generation of Haworth products that seamlessly integrate with one another. Building on Compose systems and Enclose movable walls introduced at last year’s NeoCon’05, the products are integrated through shared design, intent, research, technology, connections, dimensions and material strategy.
Haworth is also pursuing GreenGuard certification for Patterns and has designed it to help meet LEED certification guidelines.
