June 23, 2006—Davis Furniture’s major product line that was handsomely displayed in its Merchandise Mart showroom is the Avea Table collection, which Davis calls a technical achievement with simplicity.
Instead of a folding table, designer Martin Ballendat created a table with removable legs. The mechanism is based on the clip-in mechanism used to lock a snow boot onto a ski. The result: a sophisticated mechanism that securely holds the leg onto the top and is released with a simple turn of the dial. No tools required. The extruded aluminum legs also offer built-in wire management to the floor, which keeps the clean look intended for the table series.
A lightweight balsa core is used for all veneer and laminate tops, making assembly and disassembly easier and faster.
Modular tables can be joined together with a connector that slides into slotted areas and brings tables together with a turn of the dial. Modular tables can be specified with a power unit and wire management under the table, and power units can be daisy-chained up to six tables.
For storage, legs, power unit, wires, and connectors are removed and stored on a cart with the tops. Tops have stacking bumpers to protect the table when placed on cart. If there is no need to disassemble the modular tables, the tables can be ordered with fixed legs, thereby reducing the price of each table unit.
Along with the modular table program, a full conference table program is available in rectangular and oval-shaped tops. Media and storage units are also part of the Avea Table collection.
