June 27, 2007—As part of its Think Green focus, the HON Company announces that its Nature Core fiberboard will be offered as an alternative construction material on the company’s Initiate panel systems. The announcement was made at the company’s showroom at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago, during NeoCon World’s Trade Fair.
Nature Core is made primarily from a natural fiber, kenaf, that can be spun into coarse, strong threads and is second only to cotton in the volume grown around the world, according to the company. It has been used in automotive interiors as insulation against road noise, but, HON says, it has been able to render it suitable for use in panel systems. The kenaf fibers are combined with a synthetic fiber and are processed into roll goods.
A new material was also introduced. Called the ilira-stretch, the new material covered the F3 chair known for Fit, Form, Function. This material features a three-dimensional knit with an open-weave pattern, which allows for enhanced airflow, resulting in a more comfortable sitting experience. The HON Company says it is the exclusive US furniture manufacturer to offer the ilira-stretch fabric in its product line.
The multi-directional stretch of ilira-stretch allows the user to conform and sit in the chair instead of sitting on top of it.
