June 4, 2007—After Neutral Posture’s ergonomists found that standing for two hours in an average workday can burn as many as 280 calories, the company re-evaluated the idea of only sitting down at a desk.
Desks that move up and down as needed are great in theory, says Neutral Posture, but participation rates for most people are minimal since “everything else in the station is biased towards sitting, and to stand requires time, effort, and motivation,” officials say.
The result of the re-evaluation became the Ntune Seating System that includes patented components like the Nstep that can be used with any system furniture capable of being set up at standing height. Ntune Seating System will be unveiled during NeoCon, June 11-13, in its showroom at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago.
The Ntune concept, says the company, is about a raising desk heights from 30″ to 40″ and then raising the chair, to stool height, allowing users to easily and freely stand up to work when needed. The extra 10″ of storage under the 40″ desk is a 33% gain in cubic storage.
