NeoCon’08: HON uses soy foam for chairs; offers side-access pedestal

June 9, 2008—More than half of HON’s seating line now uses soy foam, reduces the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and energy used to produce the material, compared to prior petroleum-based foams, says HON. The company plans to broaden this initiative throughout its entire seating line. Soy foam is currently used in HON’s Pillow-Soft, Alaris, and Perpetual.

HON says it is one of the first office furniture manufacturers to incorporate environmentally responsible soy foam into its commercial seating products. Up to 10 percent of this foam product is made from a plant derived, soy-based oil know as polyol, which leaves a smaller environmental footprint than petroleum-based counterparts.

The latest addition to HON’s new Flagship Series storage is the side-access pedestal, which, says HON, is the first of its kind. The Side-Access Pedestal can be customized through a broad array of options and accessories, such as a piling shelf, CD/DVD holder, oversized object holder, folder bin, file tub, hanging file rack, full-size shelf and pencil tray. The Pedestal can be ordered in many pre-configured options or can be personally customized by the user.

Both will be introduced in HON’s spacious showroom during NeoCon World’s Trade Fair, June 9-11, at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago.
