June 26, 2009—J+J/Invision, a leading commercial carpet manufacturer has introduced its new, modular, PVC-free backing called eKo. This new backing (pronounced echo) is made of 10 percent post-consumer recycled content as well as post-industrial materials. The announcement was made during the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair.
Designed to provide closed-loop recyclability, eKo is 35 percent lighter than PVC tiles and more flexible for easier installation, says the company. eKo is also CRI Green Label Plus certified and carries lifetime delamination, tuft bind and moisture barrier warranties.
The name eKo was given to this new environmentally friendly product because the carpet face fiber and backing can be recycled into new backing once the life of the carpet is complete. This closed loop is a virtual echo of the product going out and coming back to be recycled. Plus, at the end of the product’s useful life, J+J/Invision will facilitate pick-up, transportation and recycling of products made with eKo backing for a minimal charge. eKo will initially be offered on a select group of J+J/Invision products.
The company has created EnAct, an organization-wide focus on reducing, recycling, reusing and creating a healthier, more sustainable environment. For more information visit J+J/Invision Web site.
