June 26, 2009—The final installment in The Manufactured Landscapes collection from Tandus is an extraordinary broadloom study, in three scales. It interprets the collection’s centerpiece three-tile modular system as a single medium, 12’6″ roll. The Manufactured Landscapes Broadloom is one of four major collections that were rolled out at NeoCon World’s Trade Fair in Chicago. Each collection is highly stylized with distinctive patterns, both modular and broadloom.
Almost 15 years ago, Tandus created the carpet industry’s first closed-loop recycling program. Tandus began by taking back used vinyl-backed carpet, including that of competitors, which would otherwise have been headed for the landfill. Then Tandus ran it through its patented process that recycles the material into a new 100 percent recycled content carpet backing called ER3.
Since 1994, Tandus has not only kept 130,000,000 pounds of carpet out of landfills, but it also has avoided using an equivalent amount of raw materials. This multiplier effect, explains Tandus, is exactly what makes closed-loop recycling such a critical part of the sustainability effort.
