March 7, 2007—In order to assist consumers in the architectural design process and the considerations involved in selecting and working with an architect, The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has launched a new online resource.
The site incorporates streaming videos which depict the design process – both institutional and residential – from the initial discussion with an architect through the final product, with simple tips on how to select an architect and the most important questions to ask, says AIA.
Given the rise of energy costs and concern over the impact that construction activity has on the environment, there has been an increase in the use of energy efficient design principles, nationwide. HowDesignWorks.aia.org addresses sustainable building practices, focusing on energy efficient design strategies.
For example, included on the site is an online video case study featuring an AIA architect based in Minneapolis, Minnesota who helps her client define environmental practices in building a new home. Together, they incorporate Kyoto Protocol standards into the structure, creating a more energy efficient living space.
In addition, visitors to the site will also get a look at how schools across the country are using elements of sustainable design in order to create healthier learning environments for students.
