New AIHA guides cover small businesses, exposure reconstruction, storage rack safety

December 3, 2008—The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) has released three new publications concerning occupational health and safety issues:

  • Guideline for Implementing an Integrated Health, Safety, and Wellness Program for Small Businesses (Stock No: MEWG08-752) by William H. Bullock provides a business case for implementing an integrated health, safety, and wellness program to improve workers’ overall health and to lower workplace injury and illness incident rates.

  • Guideline on Occupational Exposure Reconstruction (Stock Number: EXPA08-743), edited by Susan Marie Viet, Mark Stenzel, Christopher P. Rennix, Thomas W. Armstrong, and James R. Couch, presents current good practices in the development of efficient yet thorough procedures for any exposure reconstruction project. Its focus is on the industrial hygienist’s role and integration with other contributors on exposure reconstruction projects.

  • Storage Rack Safety Guideline (Stock No: SMEA08-745), edited by Lorraine Sedlak, provides guidance on the design, installation, maintenance, and safe operating practices for rack storage areas. Safety considerations in the design of product and material racking systems and warehouse facilities are reviewed and include aspects related to the material handling process. This guideline also summarizes facility, structural (floor load capacity), and operational (layout, aisle widths, area lighting, material handling equipment) concerns.
